Abstract: Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital (MWPH), located in Baltimore, aims to improve children’s health care by better preparing caregivers for their child’s safe transition to home. Approximately 8,000 mechanically ventilated children reside in the home. Rates of preventable morbidity remain high, and the survival of these fragile children rests on emergent skills of home caregivers with no medical background. MWPH shares how it has impacted patient safety by including the simulation instrument as a part of discharge teaching.
