EMS is proud to celebrate the Perioperative Nurse profession and the nurses who make surgery safe!

Perioperative nursing is a nursing specialty that works with patients who are having operative or other invasive procedures. Perioperative nurses work closely with surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nurse anaesthetists, surgical technologists, and nurse practitioners. They perform preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care primarily in the operating theatre.

Perioperative Nurses Week is sponsored by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), a community of 43,000 professionals who share a passion for advancing perioperative nursing care and ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes. AORN supports perioperative nurses’ personal and professional development by connecting them to career and practice resources, continuing education, and a close-knit nursing community.
