Abstract: Clinical supervision is a critical and essential component of counselor identity development. Supervisors play an important role in the growth and development of professional counselors. They often find themselves dealing with the challenge of helping counselors strengthen their identity while maintaining multiple roles in the supervision process, including counselor, consultant, and teacher. As such, there are relevant aspects of those roles that merit further understanding. Two of the most important aspects of the work of a supervisor are the ethical and legal parameters under which they operate. The supervision process lends itself to vicarious situations that could negatively affect the supervisor; as such, awareness of these issues is critical for their continued professional identity.

This webinar is designed to highlight the relevant ethical and legal aspects of the supervision process and delineate their importance to this collaborative relationship. Professionals will have the opportunity to gain more knowledge of how these aspects of supervision affect the process and therefore influence the supervisor’s work. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about the legal and ethical aspects of the supervision process. NBCC – 1 contact hour; NAADAC 1 contact hour (pending)

Objectives:
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the differences and similarities between supervision and counseling
2. Understand the ethical aspects of the supervision process
3. Understand the legal aspects of the supervision process
4. Learn useful risk management techniques
